Rules & Regulations

  1. No Bare Torsos – shirts or singlets must be worn at all times on the bike and run.
  2. Athlete numbers must be visible as follows:
    1. On the front during the run
    2. On the back left during the bike
    3. On the bike helmet
    4. On the top tube of the bike (near the stem)
  3. Athletes must rack their bikes and place their equipment at their assigned spots only.  Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  4. ITU rules will apply.
  5. Each athlete is responsible for knowing the course.  Failure to follow the prescribed course may result in disqualification.
  6. Please heed the instructions of all course officials, marshals and the police.
  7. Athletes may not receive any outside assistance during the race.

    Swim
  8. The average water temperature is 75º to 77º F. Wetsuits are permissible. Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any ITS event with water temperatures below 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Wetsuits will not be allowed for professional athletes if the water temperature is above 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
  9. You must wear the official swim cap issued at registration.

    Bike
  10. Passing will not be allowed in PASS FREE ZONES.  These will be indicated on the maps and athletes will be informed where PASS FREE ZONES are during the pre-race meeting.
  11. All athletes are required to wear an approved hard shell helmet. Any question regarding helmets should be referred to the head referee.
  12. Helmets must be on and securely fastened at all times that the athlete is in possession of their bike.  Athletes failing to wear or fasten helmets prior to leaving transition will be stopped and asked to remedy the situation.
  13. Helmets may not be removed or unfastened prior to racking the bike.

    Drafting
  14. Drafting during the bike portion of the race is not allowed.
  15. The draft zone for this event will measure 7 metres by 2 metres.  Athletes must pass through the draft zone within 30 seconds.
  16. Once passed athletes must drop back out of the draft zone. “Being passed” is defined as when a bike moves up beside you and their front wheel meets or moves ahead of the most forward point of yours.  At this point you must drop back out of the drafting zone.  Failure to do so will result in a drafting penalty being called against the “passed” athlete.
  17. The draft zone behind motorized vehicles will measure 35 metres by 5 metres.  Bikes may not enter the draft zone of any motorized vehicle.
  18. Draft marshals will be riding on the course.  Any athlete assessed with a drafting penalty will be stopped and their bib will be marked with a red line.  Athletes will be allowed to proceed to transition but must serve a 4 minute time penalty prior to going out on the run.  Athletes will rack their bikes, may make any equipment changes required and may pick up a drink prior to entering the penalty box.
  19. Athletes assessed with two drafting penalties will serve a total of 8 minutes in the penalty box.  Athletes with 3 drafting penalties will be disqualified.
  20. Penalized athletes are responsible for reporting to the penalty box.
  21. CAUTION—Turks & Caicos road system operates on the left-hand drive side of the road.  Be careful when training and ride on the side of the left lane.
  22. Turks & Caicos climate is hot and humid, increasing chance for dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.  Drink plenty of fluids prior to race morning and during the race.  We will offer water and a sports beverage at each Aid Station.
  23. We recommend using a sunscreen with a high SPF, as you run a high risk of being sunburned here in the tropics.  Please do not put on sunscreen before being Body Marked race morning.  Body Marking and Race Check-in will start at 5:00am on Saturday.
